Our Republic is in Jeopardy and Congress Hosts a Circus! Is Netanyahu the Elephant or the Clown? Who’s in Charge of this Mess?

July 23, 2024--On May 31, the House and Senate leadership sent a letter to Israeli war criminal Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu inviting him to address a joint session of the U.S. Congress, now scheduled to occur on July 24. Since two of the four representatives signing that letter are from New York, namely Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, I feel that I and my fellow New Yorkers have a special responsibility for this obscenity, and I am writing this statement to express my unequivocal opposition to the invitation issued in my name, and to call on my alleged representatives from New York to rescind the invitation immediately.

Let me remind you of what has happened in the United States in just the last two weeks. We have had a near assassination of a leading presidential candidate and former U.S. President, Donald Trump, who was grazed by a shooter’s bullet while speaking to his supporters at an outdoor rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. One week after that, our mentally and physically feeble incumbent President Joe Biden published a letter on X to announce that he has decided not to accept his party’s nomination for President of the United States. Apparently being sick with COVID prevented him or his handlers from even issuing his notice on official White House letterhead, or actually signing it with a pen, leading some to ask, “is the actual Joe Biden aware that this announcement has been made in his name?”

Meanwhile, less than two weeks ago, NATO’s 75th anniversary summit was held in Washington, D.C., and the assembled agreed to escalate their military actions against Russia and China, including supplying Ukraine with nuclear-capable F-16 bomber jets and long-range missiles for potential strikes on targets deep within Russian territory.

Given the instability of the current internal U.S. political situation, the looming danger of thermonuclear war with Russia being provoked by NATO, and the arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court for Netanyahu for war crimes, why would our so-called “representatives” proceed with the planned red carpet treatment of this criminal, even as thousands are protesting his government in Israel? Have they lost their minds??

What no one has had the courage to admit is that the backdrop to this apparent insanity is the collapse at long last of the bankrupt British liberal free trade system. The great American statesman and eight-time presidential candidate Lyndon LaRouche wrote in 2004 that Americans must “choose whether we will go to a living Hell throughout this planet, in the fall of this imperial world-system, or whether we shall call forth the legacy of the 1776-1789 American Revolution to bring forth on this planet the kind of community among respectively sovereign nations which our John Quincy Adams affirmed…”

A real President of the United States would put an end to this foolishness now by reaching out, in the tradition of John Quincy Adams, to the leadership of Russia and China to come up with a plan to lay the old City of London and Wall Street financial dictatorship to rest. It is bankrupt. It cannot be saved, no matter how many innocent children it devours in its genocidal tirade.

The United States must revive its anti-colonial revolutionary identity which places the constitutional principle of the “General Welfare” above that of the private monied interests in London and Wall Street. Let us stop wasting the talent of our citizens by using them as debt slaves, and instead unleash their creative potential to convert our “military industrial complex” into an infrastructure building powerhouse, creating tens of millions of high-paying productive jobs in the process.

If no one is willing to arrest Netanyahu, then at least deport him, and stop propping up his fascist, genocidal government with money and weapons. If the United States returns to its founding principles, a pathway to peace and security can be found for Palestinians and Israelis alike.
